Introduction

Education is a basic requirement of all human beings across region, race, culture, caste, class and gender. It is important not only to lead a life with dignity but also to fully develop one's personality. The job opportunities in the educational sector are increasing. 

Scope

Educational jobs not only provide a path to earn money but also offer maximum job satisfaction. The employment opportunities are available in preschool, kindergarden, schools, colleges, universities, research institutes, government organizations, non-government organizations, international organizations, etc. Teaching jobs are expected to grow about 32.5% by 2014. There is a huge demand for Indian teachers in many western countries.

Remuneration

Education is a rewarding and lucrative field. Salary depends on qualification, area of specialization, designation, experience, special achievements, etc. The teachers of international schools get high salaries. Professors in Universities get  1-1.2 lakhs per month. 

Eligibility

  • Nursery teachers training: Training of 1-2 years at Vocational Training Institutes is essential. The preferred eligibility is Class XII with 50% aggregate.
  • Pre-primary teachers training: Most vocational training centres conduct training for pre-school teachers. The preferred eligibility is Class XII with 50% aggregate. The montessori teacher training schools (which are privately owned in some large cities) impart training to the teachers.
  • Primary teacher training: Teachers with diplomas in education (D.Ed)/Bachelors in education (B.Ed) teach the primary classes. Graduates of Home Science also serve as primary teachers.
  • Secondary teachers training: Teachers having B Ed Degrees after graduation are called Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs).
  • Higher secondary (Junior College) teachers/lecturers training: Post graduate teachers with B.Ed are eligible for teaching at Secondary school level or at junior college level.
  • Senior College Teachers (Assistant Professors/Associate professor/Professor): College lecturers require a good academic record with at least 55% or an equivalent grade at master's degree level in the relevant subject from an Indian University or a foreign University. The eligibility test for lecturers, National Eligibility Test (NET), is conducted by UGC, CSIR or similar tests accredited by the UGC. The State level test SLET is for appointments within the state.
  • Post-Graduate teachers (University/College level) training: The eligibility that of senior college lecturers along with good academic record and preferably Doctorate.

1. E-Learning Jobs: These jobs are offered by a number of reputed e-learning companies in both India and abroad. Most of the e-learning companies hire professionals on a regular basis. The pay package offered to the e-learning professionals is quite lucrative. E-learning companies provide employment opportunities to graphic designers, content developers, instructional designers, project managers, technical instructional designers, programmers, business development managers and solution architects. Marketing and sales consultants are also hired for various managerial functions in the e-learning institutes.

Eligibility: For graphic designers: Must possess excellent creative and communication skills and should be expert in Photoshop, flash and other areas of graphic designing. For instructional designer it is necessary to have at least some years of experience in the field of content writing as well the technical knowledge. For Project managers/business development managers MBAs are generally preferred. The knowledge of e-learning business is also necessary.

3. Content Writing Jobs: The content writing includes development, re-writing, editing of contents and even building of website structures. Freelancing jobs are in this industry.Some of the software companies also hire content writers for preparing their user manuals and other technical documents.  KPOs in India and abroad provide jobs as a web content writer.

Eligibility criteria: Undergraduate/postgraduate/doctorate degree in any discipline can apply for the post of content writing job. Good command on English, creative skills and domain (specialized subject) knowledge are essential for this profession. Most of the KPO firms conduct admission test to evaluate the writing skills of a content writer aspirants. Content writers are required to write articles on a wide variety of topics.

4. Librarian Jobs: Librarians are also known as information managers. They are in charge of administration, finance and other technical functions of library. Private as well as government libraries appoints librarian. Librarian jobs are available in the foreign embassies, news agencies, film museums and galleries, libraries and other educational institutions.

Eligibility criteria: The candidates with B.Lib and M.Lib are appointed as librarians in reputed libraries.

5. Education psychologist jobs: It is emerging as one of important job option. Education psychologist has to perform a variety of functions such to enhance learning process for the overall development of the students; to help the teachers and parents to understand the psychological problems of the students; to observe the behaviour of the child in school and also at the playground; to review the work done by the students at school to come to a conclusion. Several schools, educational council offices and government academic institutions offer employment opportunities to educational psychologists.

Eligibility: Undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Psychology or educational psychology are eligible for this job. Individuals in this profession must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, patience and problem solving skills.

6. Placement Coordinator Jobs: Suitable educational background and relevant experience in placement field is necessary. Career opportunities are available in reputed B-Schools, HR consultancies, colleges, Universities, etc. They maintain database of students and employers, review resumes of students, conduct preliminary interview sessions, invite HR executives and guide the students about job opportunities matching with their education profile. 

Eligibility: Graduates or post graduates from any discipline may apply for the placement coordinator job however; MBAs with specialization in human resource are always given special preference. Courses

Elementary Teacher Education (ETE): Candidates who have qualified their 10+2 examination or equivalent from a recognized board are eligible for admission to this course. Passion for teaching, comfortable hours of working and paid vacations is the main reasons for joining this profession.  
Basic Training Certificate (BTC): In order to improve the quality of the teachers, the government of India has set up institutes in almost all the states in India to impart BTC.
Diploma in Education (D.Ed): Various states have made it compulsory to have D.Ed to be eligible for appointment as a teacher. For D.Ed minimum qualification is 12th with 50%.
Bachelor in Education (B.Ed): It is one year course while Vacational B.Ed. course is of two years. Graduate from any stream is eligible.
Bachelor in Physical Education (B.PEd): It is mainly concern with the physical education and sports. It is one year course while Vacational B.PEd. course is of two years. Graduate from any stream is eligible.
Master of Education (M.Ed): The M.Ed Course can be pursued after the successful completion of B.Ed. M.Ed. helps the students to learn the education systems and patterns more profoundly and comparatively. Those who have passed B.Ed are eligible for M.Ed. 
Master of Physical Education (M.PEd): It can be pursued only after the successful completion of B.PEd.
