Home Science is a science as well an art related to modern housekeeping. Home science involves hygiene, economics, child development, socioal behaviour, family relations, art, food, nutrition, clothing, pschychology, interior decoration and many more. Home science aims at developing an individual, his/her knowledge, attitude, values and skills that guide one to meet personal needs and aspirations of an individual in tone with family and community. It also enables us to achieve and maintain the welfare and well-being of home and family life in an ever changing society. A career in Home Science is best suited for modern women with good aesthetic sense regarding contemporary arts, home decorations and modern housekeeping. There are five branches of home science viz. Food and nutrition, Resource Management, Human Development, Fabric and Apparel Science, and Communication and Extension.
The changed life style, pschological, social and economical needs has resulted in growing careers in home science.
One can expect a salary of about Rs. 15, 000-1,00000 per month. Research work, teaching, catering etc. are generally well paid career options.
12th science pass students are eligible for B.Sc Home science. For post graduation graduate in any stream is eligible however, preference is given to candidates with a Bachelor's degree in home science.
