Statistics is a branch of science that deals with the collection, analysis, interpretation and presentation of numerical data. Statisticians collect, verify and interpret data to solve problems in a wide variety of fields. It depends on the educational qualification and experience. Fresher’s get starting in the range of Rs.20,000 – 30,000 per month. Those are in senior positions such as like Statistical Analyst, Statistician / Econometrician, etc. get paid in the range of Rs. 80,000 – 1, 20,000 per month. Those are employed by colleges and Universities also receive respectable salary.
The minimum educational qualification required in this field is a bachelor's degree with a major in statistics or mathematics. A Master's degree or Ph.D. is required for higher-level positions. A combination of statistical skills with other subject viz. economics, operational research, computer science, business administration, etc. give a competitive advantage in the job market. Job opportunities in industrial research require a master's degree and several years of experience. A high level of specialised training is necessary in order to be well placed in industry. Teaching and research field are open to candidates with a master's degree and doctorate.
